The Ghost

The Ghost

It had been several years since I had last ventured out into the Ghost River Valley. There are some places and scenes that burn themselves into your mind, never to be forgotten. For me, this is one of those places. It was pretty much as I remembered it being 20+ years ago. My intent for this explornication (fucking around in the woods) session was to explore a little ways up the old transalta road to gather intel for a possible ride through Devil’s Gap from the Banff/Minnewanka side. That objective will have to wait until spring, when it will be very high on my BRD (“Big Ride Day”) list. On this day, I enjoyed flawless Alberta blue skies and the cultural experience of cycling through an area where people fire guns for fun. Also some stunning scenery and plenty of that “out there” experience that I seem to crave. Turned into a pretty high-effort day, physically rewarding and adventurey feeling.

From the end of this road, there’s a section of about 10 to 15km that is unknown to me. Looking to close that gap next summer as part of ride from Canmore to Banff, up to Minnewanka, along the lakeshore to Devil’s Gap and out to where I was today. From there, it’s about 40km to Cochrane, making for a 140km ish mixed surface adventure.
